The Ogden-based oil company Flying J Inc. and two of its subsidiaries on Monday filed petitions for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Delaware.
In a news release, the privately owned company cited a drop in oil prices and the lack of available financing due to the disruption in credit markets as factors in the decision.
The bankruptcy filing includes Flying J, Big West Refining and Longhorn Pipeline. None of the company's other U.S. or Canada operations are affected.
The company says all Flying J facilities continue to operate as usual. According to its Web site, Flying J employs some 16,000 people and operates 250 travel plazas and fuel stations in 41 states and six Canadian provinces.
